HELPFUL LINKS

Heritage Families,

Congratulations for making it through the first quarter!   It has been a great year so far.  We love our scholars and are so glad they are here!

We loved our Constitution Night last week.  Our PTO did a fantastic job of planning and executing the event.  Our Arts Department worked really hard to put together performances for the night.  Huge shout out to those teachers and scholars!

We look forward to the concerts and productions we have coming up the rest of this semester!

Our athletics are also in full swing.  Our teams are doing well, and we have a full schedule of games.  We are grateful for a year where we can attend games and support our teams!

At Heritage, our grades are not final at the quarter.  Our grades continue on and are final grades in December.  Grades start over in January and go through May when they are finalized again.  We issue a grade for each semester.  All grades are in Powerschool.  We don’t send home a written report card.  So, please continue to check Powerschool.

Have a great Fall Break!  No school September 27-October 7.

Sincerely,
Kimberly Ellsworth
Principal, Maricopa Campus

FALL BREAK STARTS NEXT WEEK!!!

Meet-the-Teacher

Heritage Academy welcomes Ms. Ashley Smith to the Maricopa Campus as our new dance teacher!

IMG_7704_1631464800994

Ms. Ashley Smith began her dance training at the early age of 2. She studied all forms of dance and grew up as a competitive dancer in the Dallas and Phoenix areas. She received a scholarship to attend Point Park University in Pittsburgh, PA and graduated cum laude with a B.A. degree in Dance.

Ashley continued her dance training at the Edge Performing Arts Center in Los Angeles, at the Broadway Dance Center in NYC, along with Chicago’s Lou Conte Dance Center, River North Chicago, and The Giordano Dance School in Evanston, IL. After graduating from college, she received a full scholarship to study and perform at the Giordano Dance School in Evanston, IL as a member of the Giordano 3 Company.

While living in Chicago, Ashley had the opportunity to perform and work with numerous Jazz and Contemporary dance companies and well-known choreographers. She landed the incredible opportunity of touring internationally as a professional dancer/performer with Disney Live!’s “Mickey’s Rockin Road Show”, a Feld Entertainment Production. For five years, Ashley toured internationally and performed in over 25 different countries along the way.

After touring, Ashley relocated back to Phoenix, Arizona where she currently teaches all forms of dance across the valley. Her favorite styles to teach and choreograph are Lyrical, Contemporary, and Jazz. Ashley also travels around the nation as a competitive dance adjudicator and enjoys sharing her lifetime passion of dance and technical knowledge with others.

Ashley is currently furthering her education and artistry by pursuing her MFA in Dance Choreography from Jacksonville University (2022). Ashley started Emote Creations Dance Project and is Artistic/Creative Director creating mini Dance Films. She loves to inspire and motivate dancers and students to be their best and is ecstatic to share her love of dance, fitness and creativity with the scholars at Heritage Academy!

We are so excited to have Ms. Ashley Smith as part of our Family of Heroes!

Grade-Check

Grade Check letters will be emailed on Friday,  9/24 for scholars who currently have a D or an F in a class.  Grades are issued at the semester so there is plenty of time to make improvements.  We do send these letters out on a monthly basis so scholars and parents are informed if there is a concern.  Please reach out to the teachers directly if you have questions.

Just a reminder of Heritage Academy’s policy concerning grades:

High school scholars who receive a “D” or an “F” in a required class will not receive credit and will be required to repeat the class. A student who fails a required class must make up the class at a time other than during the regular school year. This will involve a summer school commitment, either at Heritage, if offered, or at another acceptable school.

In the case of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade scholars, when even a single class or multiple classes are not passed with a “C-“ or better, there will be no promotion to the next grade and the scholar will have to repeat the entire year and all the classes, even the ones he did pass. Heritage
Academy will not promote a scholar into high school who has not mastered junior high school skills.

CONSTITUTION WEEK WAS A HIT!!!

Constitution-

A HUGE THANK YOU  to our AMAZING PTO for putting on such a fun event to celebrate the Constitution of our country!  There were activities all week at lunch with a raffle and prizes, an art contest and live demonstration, a food truck, a concert with performances from Ballroom, Dance Company, Chamber Orchestra, and Choir, Citizenship awards, and a Living History Museum by our HS Drama Scholars.  What a fantastic school event!!!

A SPECIAL THANK YOU to BOY SCOUT TROOP 993 for providing our flag ceremony and to all of the ARTS DEPARTMENT, teachers, and staff that helped make the event a success!

Heroes Athletics Update

Our JH teams are ranked headed into the final week of the regular season.  JH Girls Basketball is 7-0 and in 2nd place, JH Coed Soccer is 5-0 and in 1st place and JH Baseball is 6-1 and in 1st place.   Playoffs will start next week (9/27), please reach out to your coach for a possible schedule of games.

Congrats to our Heroes Football team on a big win over the weekend.  They beat regional opponent Imagine Coolidge 58-0 on Friday.  The offensive line dominated and handed out more pancakes than IHOP.  The defensive unit played lights out, holding Coolidge to less than 100 total yards gained.  Special shout out to Yannick Gatlin who scored on a 45 yard touchdown run to complete the scoring.  They play away again on Friday at The Western School of Science & Technology.

Our JH Cross Country team had an amazing meet on Saturday.  JH runners compete in a 1.5 mile run.  For the girls, Isabella Gomez placed 2nd among 117 competitors and set a school record with a time 9:21.  The boys JH team finished first place with 63 combined points.  This is our first time winning a cross country event.  The boys team is led by 8th grader, Robbie Huffaker who finished in 8th place with a record time of 8:53.  The rest of the team scored to bring home the trophy, they are Dion Buckley, Jens Robinson, Tak Harris, Dash Harris, Alexander Mylek, Enoch Miller and Naaman Martin.  Congrats to Coach Knorr and our JH boys!

Congratulations to this awesome Ninja, Justin!  He is the first ever scholar athlete from Heritage Maricopa to compete in Martial Arts. He joined 450 other ninjas from around Arizona and around the country at a tournament at the Phoenix Convention Center this weekend. He did a fantastic job venturing into the competition ring making his family and instructor very proud – and he collected a little hardware for his trouble.
It was great to see him take this very big step and set an example of awesomeness for his fellow #HeroNinjas . Go Heroes!!!

… And last but not least, our HS Advanced Drama scholars performed at the largest Constitution celebration in the state of Arizona this weekend, the Freedom Festival in Queen Creek.
