JH GIRLS BASKETBALL
Dribble right. Crossover. Dribble left two dribbles, just inside the 3-point line. Pullup. Shoot. Swish!! Tirza Cortez had been there before, against the same team, minus the crossover dribble and the swish. And with a different result. A year ago, in their first ever JH basketball game, against Leading Edge, the JH lady Heroes lost 18-17. This night, the perfect swish by Tirza, affectionately known as “Tarzan”, put the team up 22-0. THAT is how far JH girls basketball has come. “I could not believe we were up 22-0,” said coach John Hill. “I knew we were going to be good, going to be better. A lot better! But 22-0 better? Can’t say I predicted that.” For coach Colin Comerford and coach Hill, the very play that put the Heroes up 22-0 was microcosm of how far the team has come. “All the girls are simply better, and it is reflected in our 3-0 record and on the scoreboard.” The Team A girls average win total is double digits. “We have added a LOT of talent. Two 8th grade girls joined just this year, and the 6th grade class is extremely talented,” said coach Hill. “We have a lot to work with on this team and the girls work so hard, are so committed, and care for each other so much.”
The undefeated girls beat Legacy Maricopa 31-14 Tuesday night. Next Tuesday, Sept 7, they take on undefeated Pathway and the Lady Pumas. “They beat us twice last year. We are rivals. It spills over into boys JH basketball. Two undefeated teams going at it for bragging rights of being the top JH girls team in Maricopa. It will the game of the year. We need a packed gym!” “We talk about winning a championship, hanging a banner, putting a trophy in that new trophy case,” said coach Hill. “We are not afraid to set big goals and to talk about them. To do big things you must set big goals, put in the work, and enjoy the fruits of your labor as that ‘tree’ grows.” For JH girls basketball, the tree is growing, and it is bearing lots of fruit!
Attention ALL Seniors!! Please send a baby picture to Ms. Turik to be used in the yearbook. Parents may also purchase a Senior Spotlight. See flyer for details!
Spirit week was so much fun and we had fantastic scholar and teacher participation!

Varsity Girls Volleyball was victorious over Heritage Mesa for the first time in program history. Whoo-hoo! The long serving runs, and awesome kills made beating their rival that much sweeter. They are now 2-0.
Varsity boys’ soccer won 5-0. Luca Hernandez scored twice, and Liam Avila had two assists.
Coach Tony Rowan and his Basketball program scholars are still running their amazing fundraiser. It has about a 2-3 week turnaround from when the shop closes at the end of next week, 9/10. All the proceeds come back into the program. Some items of need are additional basketballs, a rack, additional equipment and travel gear. Please take a look at the shop, there are lots of amazing pieces to choose from. When ordering you can select a specific scholar/player to give credit. They are all trying to reach a personal goal. Share with family and friends. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact Coach Rowan. Thank you for your support! Here is the link. https://fancloth.shop/XLETH
We are excited to have fans back at our home games. In our gym, we ask you to please be responsible, stay home if you are sick. Also, there is no food or drink, with the exception of water, allowed in the Heroes gym.
**Important reminders** We are a “Pass to Play” school. We take education seriously and want to see our scholars succeed both off and on their respective court or field. Parents, please make sure to take an active role in your scholars education by checking their grades on a weekly basis. It is the scholars responsibility to communicate with their teachers at all times regarding assignments and or grades.
As always, when attending any Heritage sporting event, whether it be on our beautiful campus or away, we expect our scholars, families and their invited guests to conduct themselves with Heritage standards and expectations in mind. Thank you for your continued support.
Have an amazing 5 day weekend. We’ll see you next week!

DON’T GET BLOCKED IN
SCHOLARS SHOULD NOT BE SIGNED OUT BETWEEN 2:30-3:40 PM
Need to schedule an appointment for your scholar during school hours? We ask that you try and schedule appointments on Fridays when the scholars are out of school. We know this isn’t always possible due to days and hours of operation, however due to our driveline, we are not able to sign scholars out after 2:30 pm. If you have an appointment for your scholar, we will need you to pick them up before 2:30 pm or wait until school is out to pick up your scholar.
REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR LUNCH!!
NO OUTSIDE FOOD IS ALLOWED
We have a large number of forgotten lunches that are being dropped off at campus. Please limit this as much as possible and remind your scholars before they leave the house, to grab their lunch. NO OUTSIDE FOOD (fast food or delivery) is allowed. The school does not provide a lunch if your scholar forgets.
All appointments including dentist, doctor, orthodontist, etc. should be scheduled on Fridays or after school. Fridays are the perfect day since we have it off and your scholar(s) will not miss class time.
PHOTO ID REQUIRED
TO SIGN-OUT YOUR SCHOLAR
If you need to sign-out your scholar, you will be required to show your ID and we will make a copy of it for our records.
If scholars are not feeling well, please keep them home. Please do a daily check before sending them to school.
Scholars who are sick (not with Covid) may return back to school when they have been symptom free for 24 hours.
If scholars test positive for Covid, they should quarantine for 10 days.
If scholars are exposed to Covid and remain symptom free, they may attend school. In the case of exposure from an immediate family member, we ask scholars to quarantine for 10 days.
DID YOU ORDER LUNCH?
HERE ARE A FEW REMINDERS:
- Communicate with your scholar if you ordered lunch for them so they know to pick it up.
- If a lunch is ordered and not picked up, it will be donated.
- If your scholar is absent, cancel the order or contact the school if you want it saved, otherwise it will be donated.
