Heroes add 5 Banners to the Gym Rafters in 23-24
Heritage MARICOPA Heroes continued their dominance over their league rivals in Varsity Baseball, Varsity Softball, Varsity Wrestling and JH Coed Soccer. The Heroes started off the year with two state championships for JH sports. JH baseball, while so close in previous years with two runner up trophies, finally brought home the championship. After a mediocre regular season, they peaked at the right time and rolled through the playoffs. JH Coed soccer has dominated the fall season for the last 4 years. They only have two losses on record over that time and have three straight state championships.
In the varsity season, wrestling continued to roll over their competition, winning their third straight team championship. Congrats to Jaxon Howell 113, Reagan Fonner 120, Mason Nichols 150, Aiden Behnke 175, Lee Kondravy 285, and Gianna Chavez, Sarah Gillies, Jackeline Certalic, Deanna Gonzales for winning gold medals in the state tournament. Gianna Chavez (FR) was also awarded Female Wrestler of the Year.
Heroes baseball has only lost three games over the last three years that has seen them dominate the league. They graduated 6 seniors but continue to reload each year. Matthew Martin (SO) was awarded CAA Player of the Year honors.
Softball won their championship game by the mercy rule. They won each game by an average margin of 14 runs. In the championship game, Bailey LaBounty (SR), had a clutch hit and made a big out at the plate seal the win.
Each of our sports teams are improving and having success!
Jadon Hutson (JR) was awarded CAA Male Swimmer of the Year and won state in the 200fr and 50bf. The girls varsity swim team was runner up in state and Emma Hutson (FR) won state in the 200fr and the 200fr relay team (Emma Hutson, Lorelei Adams, Jayla Santa Cruz, and Gianna Chavez) won the gold. JH girls cross country team came in second in state, just a few points behind the champions. Varsity girls volleyball has been runner-up in the state championship the last two years. JH softball had a great season and was runner-up in the state championship. And finally, our varsity cornhole team came in 2nd in state and Madilyn Ellsworth (SR) won state in Girls Singles and Madilyn and Michael Blondin (SO) pulled off a huge upset to take home the gold medal in Mixed Doubles.
We are excited for what 24-25 will bring!
Welcome to our athletics page! Heritage Academy employs the best coaches & faculty in Arizona. Part of being the best includes knowing what makes a good team and how to have fun while developing character in youth through academics and athletics. We invite you to come take a tour, meet our staff, come watch a game, and see how our scholars are excelling in the classroom and in competition.
We compete in the CAA (http://azcaapreps.com)
Below are the forms that both scholars and parents need to review and fill out before participating in sports.
1.) 2024-25-CAA-Physical Form– Athlete physical form required by the CAA for participation in competitive sports.
2.) Athletic-Packet_Maricopa-2024-2025 – This packet needs to be printed and returned to campus. It consists of emergency contact information and consent to treat, parent and athlete code of contact, class fee acknowledgement, transportation permission, insurance information, concussion form, and ECA tax credit information.
3.)Concussion in Sports (For HS Athletes Only)- Must be watched prior to any participation once during your high school tenure. Please watch the video and answer all questions (aprox 30 minutes). Then either download the certificate and print it and bring it to school. Once you have a completion code while a high school student, you do NOT need to do it again.
4.) Heritage Academy Academic Eligibility – As a reminder, Heritage Academy has an academic eligibility requirement in order to compete. From our handbook: “Academic Eligibility to Compete: Scholar Athlete grades are checked every Monday during the sports season. Players must be passing with 70% or above in each of their individual classes to participate in the game/meet, for that week. Eligibility, therefore, is determined on a week-to-week basis.” A weekly email is sent to parents and scholars alerting them of any ineligibility.
Below are some articles recommended by our athletic staff:
1. “Coaching from the Sidelines”
2. Heritage Academy strongly encourages and recommends that all of our Athletes be Multi-Sport Athletes https://changingthegameproject.com/the-race-to-nowhere-in-youth-sports/
