Scholar handbook:
Absences Any scholar who misses ten percent (10%) or more of classes (usually five or more per semester) in a given subject may not receive credit for that subject. This applies to all absences unless on school business. An excused absence is an absence due to illness, doctor appointment, bereavement, family emergencies and 9 suspensions not to exceed 10% of the instructional days scheduled for the school year. Heritage Academy must be notified of the absence prior to the absence or when the absence occurs by the parent or legal guardian who has custody of the student. If an absence occurs relating to any other term or condition that is not specifically designated above, the absence shall be counted as unexcused.
***BASEBALL***
Today is beginning of an exciting journey for both our varsity softball and baseball teams as they set out to defend their state championships at MIT! The baseball team takes the field at 4:00 PM, the softball team at 7:00 PM. With their determination and skill, they aim to continue their legacy of excellence on the diamond. Let’s rally behind our Heroes and wish them the best of luck as they embark on this quest for victory!
***VARSITY BOYS VOLLEYBALL***
***GOLF***
The high school golf team took on A+ this past week in their last tournament of the season. Congratulations to Alejandro Guzman Sandoval for taking 1st place, shooting the lowest score of 40 on nine holes. As the golf season draws to a close, Coach Hunsaker reflects on the incredible progress made by each scholar. Through dedication and hard work, their scores have seen remarkable improvement. Tomorrow, both junior high and high school take off to Prescott for the state tournament. They’re ready to showcase their skills and passion for the game. We wish them good luck as they tee off and represent Heritage!
***VARSITY GIRLS SOCCER***
Varsity girls soccer beat EVAC 2-0 this week in the NCAA state quarterfinal game. Emma Ireland and Izzy Gomez both scored and Sarah Gillies assisted on both goals. Nevaeh Long and the defense played great to earn the shutout. The girls play again next week.
***JH GIRLS SOCCER***
Junior high girls soccer also won this week against Combs Middle School 5-1. Melanie Mireles scored twice and Trinity McFarland, Maya Salas and Bella Macedo each added a goal.
***JH BOYS SOCCER***
Junior high boys soccer team are undefeated and beat a ALA Anthem South this past week. Tyler Parady scored ten goals!
A huge thank you to our fantastic PTO, they fed teachers breakfast during their staff meeting last week.
Mrs. Sims’ 7th and 8th grade science classes dissected chicken wings to show how the skeletal and muscular systems work together. Some classes even got to see bone marrow.
Scholars in Ms. Hilsinger’s class had to design and build a thermos that would limit heat transfer. The winning group had a temperature change of 5.4 degrees after 15 minutes.
Scholars in Mrs. Oosthuizen’s science class were creating posters regarding the geologic time scale, fossils, history of Earth – then we got a little off topic and experimented with how high we could build our marker towers.
Master Feiles’ leadership class worked on negotiations and Habit 4: THINK WIN-WIN using a stash of sweet treats.
Mrs. Turik’s ASL scholars did some blind activities the past couple of days as we studied Helen Keller.
It was Principals’ Day on Wednesday. Scholars and staff all appreciate the hard work Mrs. Titus does for our school.
Thank you PTO for setting up this YEAR LONG fundraiser!

The Heritage Academy Maricopa English Department would like to recognize 10th Grade scholar, Gavin Carr, as the April writing Scholar of the Month.
Gavin Carr earned this award for his Tuesdays with Morrie – Journal Prompt #2. Gavin wrote an encouraging and moving personal reflection about the most inspirational quote he has ever read. His completed work was impeccably written with thoughtful consideration of mechanics, usage, and grammar rules.
Congratulations Gavin!”

REMINDERS
Be prepared and try to remember all of the items you will need for class, sports, and extracurriculars each day.
We understand things happen and sometimes items get forgotten. We have had an increase in these forgotten items, so please help remind your scholars to prepare their needed items the night before. SCHOLAR WILL BE CALLED DOWN BETWEEN CLASSES TO PICK UP THE ITEM. WE WILL NOT DELIVER THE ITEMS TO CLASS. Please remind your scholar to pick up the item in the front office.
The front office lends out uniform shirts and pants to scholars for a variety of reasons. We need them returned in a timely manner. Starting after Spring Break we will be invoicing parents for unreturned items.
Parents,
The houses that surround Heritage are frustrated by cars blocking their driveways. PLEASE USE THE CELL PHONE LOT TO WAIT FOR DRIVELINE. The cell phone lot idea was created by a council comprised of the City of Maricopa Police Department, the HOA, the Catholic Church, and heritage to alleviate this issue.
