Here We Go!

Heroes fans!  We will be starting our JH Q1 season next week and our high school season the following week.  IT IS GO TIME!

Our two-time defending JH Coed Soccer State Champs start us off with a game at home on Tuesday (8/15) at 4:30p.  We have a couple scrimmages for our high school teams next week,

Varsity Volleyball plays their intrasquad Red/Blue game on Monday (8/14) at 4:30p and our Varsity Football team scrimmages Heritage Gateway on Thursday (8/17) at 5:00p.

Admission is free to these varsity scrimmages.

For the complete schedule and results, follow our teams on azcaapreps.com

Remember, all scholar-athletes need their physical and athletics packets turned in BEFORE they are eligible to compete.  Those can both be found on our Heritage Maricopa Athletics PAGE

Team Swag Shop Extended

If you missed your opportunity to score some Heritage Maricopa gear, we have extended the shop for one more week.  It will close at Midnight on Friday (8/11).  Take a look at what the store has to offer HERE

Facility Upgrades

We have had a busy summer upgrading our sports facilities on campus.  We are proud of ous campus and have added some great upgrades.  Our new scoreboard on the field is in and ready to show off our wins.  The windscreen on the back fence is providing a great look to our field.  We have added a logo and advertising board to our scoreboard in the gym.  We now have a ‘Digital Trophy Case’ in the gym concessions area as well.

We are excited to show those off to our fans when you come see our scholar-athletes play.

Partnership Opportunities

We have a couple more opportunities to partner with us through sponsorship and advertising on our field and gym scoreboards.  There is limited space.  If you are interested or know someone who might be interested, please have them contact Jeff Miller in the athletics office (jeffrey.miller@heritageacademyaz.com)

We have a great assortment of championship, team, and individual pictures cycling on our digital trophy case, BUT WE WANT MORE! If you have some good high-resolution pictures from years past, please contact Mr. Miller to get them added to our slide show.

Scholar-Art

Hello everyone,
I’d like to share the works in progress from our ADVANCED art class! Our creative heroes are using the techniques learned in Art 1 and taking them a step further to create texture in a drawing. Their subject this week is a wolf, and they are creating these drawings using graphite pencil. These are still works in progress, but they are already looking fantastic! These drawings are large (12″ x 18″)! You’re always welcome to come in and see these artworks in person as well! Hope you enjoy these! – Carlos Jimenez

In Mrs. Sim’s Science class, they did a 2 day scientific method lab. We put the gummy bears in 7 different mixtures and measured to see which mixture made it gain the most mass and length. This lab used skills in lab safety, scientific measurement, and the scientific method.

Mr. Creighton’s Latin 1 classes were tasked with dressing like a Roman victor. This required creating laurel crowns.  Any scholar who brought a bedsheet participated in the portion on how to fold a toga. It was lots of fun. Steps were taken slowly and there were a lot of misfolded togas, but eventually, they got them all together with their eclectic selection of bedsheets. The results were great, and some classes enjoyed it so much, they continued wearing them throughout class.  One group even recreated the assassination of Julius Caesar for a picture. They all looked spectacular.  All in all, this was a ton of fun.

Mrs. Huff’s Digital Imaging class proudly display their finished cyanotype projects. Cyanotypes are a slow -reacting photographic printing formulation.  It produces a beautiful cyan-blue print.

Thank-you

A HUGE Thank you to the Hollingshead family for the donation of safety vests and cool rags to keep our staff safe and comfortable during their after-school duties. 3:30-4:00 is the hottest part of the day. Most of our staff duties are traffic and driveline related. Fun fact… the temperature coming off the asphalt on a 110* – 115* degree day varies between 160* and 180* degrees. Thank you, MAC’S AIR!

REMINDERS

REMEMBER:

Beards are for Santa not for scholars

Boys are to be clean-shaven. Hair length should be above the collar and not touching the ears. Hair must be maintained so as not to reflect faddish styles and not to bring attention, such as the use of long spikes, unnatural colors, etc. Any side burns are to be no lower than the ear lobe.

Morning Driveline opens at 7:15 a.m. Please don’t drop your scholar(s) off before then.

Vehicles enter the property through the main (west) gate in single file and split into two lanes as they circle around the property. The speed limit on campus is 5 mph. See attached MAP.  Teachers will be on duty helping to guide traffic. Be respectful of these individuals and follow their directions.

DRIVELINE MAP

2022-2023-Driveline-Map

DO NOT drop scholars off at the front of the school, or anywhere else than the established drop-off area.

The drop-off area is configured with three lanes: a left, right, and center lane. The left and right lanes are for dropping off scholars, and the center lane is for exiting vehicle traffic only. Scholars MUST exit their vehicle ONLY on the side of the vehicle that is adjacent to the sidewalk on the left or right side of the drop-off lanes, and you should plan accordingly prior to entering the driveline. Failure to observe this critical safety protocol may result in disciplinary action for both scholar and driver. As vehicles exit the drop-off area, they merge back into single-file, continue around the northern end of the property and leave the property through the main gate.

Scholars who are parking their vehicle on campus for the day may only park in the designated areas in the northeastern corner of the property, and must have a parking permit prominently displayed in the front windshield. Short-term parking for visitors to campus is in the designated parking area adjacent to the main gate. Visitors that need to leave while the driveline is in progress must merge into the driveline and follow the driveline pattern to exit campus as described above.

**Afternoon Driveline opens at 3:15 p.m. Vehicles are NOT allowed to park and wait in the street outside of our gate prior to 3:15 p.m.

**Afternoon driveline does not open until 3:15 p.m. Vehicles that arrive earlier than 3:15 are not permitted to line up in the street outside of our gate prior to 3:15 p.m. and can park and wait in the gravel “Cell Phone” parking lot located on the west side of Our Lady of Grace Parrish until 3:15 p.m. Drivers of vehicles that disregard this protocol will be given a verbal warning and redirected to the gravel parking area. Persistent disregard of this protocol will result in a referral to the Maricopa Police Department.

CELL PHONE LOT

Cell-Phone-Lot

The afternoon driveline is very similar to the morning driveline. Vehicles enter the property through the main (west) gate in single file and split into two lanes as they circle around the property. The speed limit on campus is 5 mph.

Scholars being picked up are only permitted to enter their vehicle in the designated drop-off area. DO NOT pick up scholars at the front of the school, or anywhere else than the established pick-up area.

Please be patient our first few days as we get used to all being back on campus. Remember if we all do our part to help keep up these protocols, the smoother our driveline will be. United We Stand!

Heritage Maricopa’s Hero, Johan Vidolin, placed second in his division at the IBJJF Pan Kids tournament in Florida this past weekend. It is the biggest and most important kids tournament in the world for IBJJF where over 2700 competitors participated.

Two weeks prior he also placed second at the IBJJF American Nationals in Las Vegas.
Johan trains 4-5 days a week, 2-3 hours a day at Gracie Barra in Chandler. He’s been training since he was 8 years old to compete in these tournaments and his hard work finally paid off!
